Mantra Meditation for Physical Ailments
Mantra means ‘that, which when repeated takes us across the stormy sea of life’ or ‘tool of the mind.’ And if you use a mantra, you know it’s a simple way to help you control your mind. The average person has some 15,000 random thoughts throughout the day and for most people, many of these thoughts are negative thoughts. The mind is like a fan that blazes around and around and the mantra is like a switch that helps to turn off the thought fan. Reciting the mantra even one time will slow the fan down and the repetition of the mantra will help to turn the fan off and bring your mind a great sense of peacefulness.
Mantra’s are like a mental home for your thoughts. You have been thinking about all types of things for days, weeks even months and there is no where to ‘come home to’ when you are tired and can’t think about anything else or want to stop thinking about something. The mantra will help you with that. It’s a place to come ‘home’ to and rest.
Mantra mediation helps with both mental and physical ailments. Mantra mediation will help someone who is depressed because it will help to turn off the negative thoughts; mantra mediation will help an insomniac because their mind is always racing and this will help to turn off their mind so they can fall asleep. Reciting a mantra will help lower blood pressure as well because the repetition takes the mind’s ‘mind’ off of what is really bothering it.
Unlike other forms of basic meditation, Buddhist mediation believes not only in finding one’s true soul, but also gaining true insight once you block worldly distractions out of your mind. Posture is also an important key element of Buddhist mediation as this will affect both the effectiveness of your breathing exercises, but also the extent to which you can dedicate yourself to freeing your mind and your spirit. When meditating, a Buddhist seeks to find the keys to what is known as “The Four Noble Truths” all of which have to do with creation and death.
