Mantra meditation
Mantra meditation involves repeating a certain grouping of words having a phonetic significance. The practice is an ancient form of meditation used in both Tibet and India. The whole idea of Manta meditation is related to sound.
It is thought by those who practice it that sound has significant power over everything, and that it in fact even has had the power to create the universe as it is believed that God first manifested as sound himself.
It is said and widely believed by yoga’s that sound has the ability to affect the chemistry of the body and mind, and even the ability to alter thought patterns. By repeating a particular mantra one is able to allow their mind to focus on sound and clear away those other thoughts, distractions, and emotions that may otherwise divert ones energies.
The mantra that the meditator chooses may be said silently in the meditator’s head, whispered, or said out loud. The process begins by concentrating on the rhythm of breathing by counting up to ten and back down to one again. Following this technique the meditator will begin to speak the mantra that they have chosen.
The act of repetition of these sounds is thought by the believers of this technique that the sound vibrations that result will awake the love of God in ones heart and mind. This they feel is the cause for being able to so easily experience God during this act of meditation.
